dual filters

well.. i barely have time but lately i was thinkin?? is it worth puting 2 intake filters on my '93 4 banger?? I have already bought a plubing Y pipe splitter and and angle pipe and am only using the angle pipe to angle the cone filter towards the inlet by the fender. But how feasable or worth while is it to have 2 filters?? Also do those tornado fan things work well??

i dont think anyone on here has tried it. be different and try it, see how it feels. if you like it then leave it, if not just take it off and leave one filter.

If I'm understanding you properly you're talking about two filters connected to the same intake pipe. That won't make a difference in the least with filtraton. It will hurt performance more than anything else.

it might help a smidgle.... like .01 hp or something because the filter is a resiriction on the air flow, by putting 2 filters on you would increase the filter area and be able to reduce the filter restriction, if you already have the parts for it you might as well try it out, i wouldnt spend the money on it but im a poor highschool student who can barely afford gas

if you do this though dont claim big hp unless u dyno it, if somebody ask why u did it just say it was to be diff not for the hp gain

From his post it doesn't sound like he is double filtering the same air, which would also be kinda pointless. It sounds like he's gonna place two air filters connected to a Y pipe, connected to his intake. This won't help at all.

i guess he thinks the cleaner the air, the more power...

maybe, but he's adding a restriction, which eliminates any gains he would have otherwise seen...

and yes, ive thought about this too, but came to that conclusion...

sorry bout my slow reponces.. as this board has been blocked at work
but ya i bought a Y slpittler thing at my local hardware store = $3
so i said that aint too much and hey maybe by adding another filter it may do something. I'm not basing this on any facts or physics laws.. this is a pure dumb kid sppontaneos idea.. so thats why i asked all of you if it was worth it. I only have 1 filter at the mnoment but another filter is like $15... but if you guys say it wont do shit.. i wont bother.

yes there are corvette dual filters but remember vettes are 350ci or bigger, camrys arent even 200ci (183 ci if i remember the convertion right for the 3.0 liter)
so i think your right, would not be much help for a camry

agreed on the corvette thing, K&N makes it for any Chevy TPI (tuned port injection) V8.

...and agreed on the camry thing, the i4 only pulls in so much air. I too have thought about doing this.

ight.. so i wont bother... but i removed the old casing and am thinking/planning on a new housing type thing that will take the air from that inlet on the side and directing it striaght in-around to the filter. Too bad the inlet is some stupid triangular shape...coulnt be a normal round hole could it!!
Another Q.. is it better if air "turns" or is it better if the air is "straight".. I mean is it better if my pipeing has multiple angles.. or is it better to be fewer angles??

While the performance benefits of doing this mod are slim, I'd do it for the same reason I'm putting a V6 muffler on a I4: looks. If he wanted to do a homemade bootleg setup with a pipe branching into two ahead of the mass air and use two small cones (or that blue HKS one on Ebay sometimes that, for lack of better description, resembles a bionic mushroom) it would look good.

I think it's in the execution more than anything.

Pooter- dare to be different!

Steve
