Gen # Trunk Question

Alright, so I need an answer to this.

I have the Gen 3 Camry with the ugly reflective center piece on the back of the trunk. I know the Gen 3.5s had a much cleaner rear end piece (ie. no hideous reflective center panel).

Now is it true, that in order to get the gen 3.5 center piece, I need to get a whole gen 3.5 trunk? Or does the gen 3.5 center panel fit right in place of the gen 3 reflective panel?

So I actually don't need a full trunk? Just the panel off a gen 3.5?

Yup. Just get a Scepter trunk, or try to get a Carbon Fiber one, or get your reflective one painted to match your car.

Getting mixed opinions again.

Im gonna attach pictures, lol.

I am wondering if this type piece can be replaced with the gen 3.5s center panel piece.

I really dislike the reflective design, and I like the design of the 3.5s center piece. I know painting over the center is an option, but it doesnt look as good as the gen 3.5.

So my question is, if I can get a hold of the center panel off a 3.5, can I just remove my 3's center piece and place the 3.5 in and it will work?

So hard to explain. lol

I looks like the gen 3.5 panel should fit, but you'll have to snag all three pieces (the center colour panel, and the two reverse light units). I don't know if the mounting points for the two different garnish pieces are the same or not

i noticed theres a few panels for the back of camrys.
My camry has a black panel in the back(red car).
Anybody know why they put black panels in the back? Just to be unique??
I've always wondered....

Trim level maybe? Base model gets a black one to match the black handles and mirror housing, and higher level trims get body coloured pieces?

Hmmm...dunno..maybe it was 'the thing' to do when your car was made? or maybe they ran out of paint on the day your trim piece was made?

YES. They are all interchangable.

The 3.5 Panel is one hollow piece not 3 individual pieces

The black panel was on all early gen3 (92 and some 93) DX and SE models as were black mirrors and outside door handles. I do believe however the V6SE's had color matched mirrors and handles as an option starting in either 93 or 94.

All DX models from 93-95 had black mirrors.

The red panel was on all trim levels (except the before mentioned DX and SE levels) from 92-94.

The split reflector panel was on all 95-96's

i think it has somthin to do with the colors matching. i beleive the black panel also comes on the burgundy colored camrys? so i guess they just dont like to mix those red colors
