2002 4-Cyl Belt Noise

Hello All,

I have a 2002 XLE 4-Cyl, with 70k miles

Belts have been replaced at 50k miles, about 2 years ago

I''ve been having some noise lately

The noise does not happen when rolling, only happens as soon as I give it some gas from a complete stop or park, noise last for only a second (noise in D or R only, it doesnt happen if I rev it in P or N)

It sounds like the noise coming from one of the belts, it sounds just like if you have a cracked fan belt

Has anyone ever had this before?

Since noise only happens when car in gear, is it some transmission related problem?

Thanks

the noise only last for about a second as i give it some gas in D or R at very low speed

the noise never happened when car is above parking lot speed

the noise never happened when i rev it in P or N

since the noise sounds exactly like "belt noise", so i was thinking if there is any belt or rubber thing involved with transmission.....

anyone has any idea...?

Check the belts, have a closer look at them and make sure they are not loose. See if you can tell where there noise is coming from, the belts are on the right side of the car, if it is where the noise is coming from than it probably isn't the transmission.

N.E.O.

i brought my car to a shop, after couple minutes of checking, they said the noise was caused by a bad tensioner, which doesnt provide enough of tension, cause the belt to wobble/vibrate when taking off

mechanic quoted me, $170 for the tensioner (special order), $40 for a new belt, and $70 labor

does the above sound reasonable to you? has anyone ever needed a new tensioner?
