1986 Camry EFI Fuse Issue

So ya, the fuse keeps blowing every time I replace it and turn on the key. Before I had this problem I was having issues with keeping the car running after a jump. So since I had a good friend willing to help me out with this issue I had it towed down to his place so he can look at it more since he had all the tools.

But something happened on the way there, Once the tow truck droped my car off I had my buddy give me a jump to get things going. Right when I went to start up my car while he was jumping me, my wind shield wipers started up at a speed that was way beyond normal I mean these things look like they were about to fly off my car, 30 secs later I hear a pop coming from my dash and white smoke came out from behind my CD Player.

After pulling out my cd player and D/C everything, I couldn't see anything that has burned up or melted or anything of the sort. so now each time I hook the cables up to my car for a jump start my EFI Main Relay Fuse twitches when i tap the neg bolt while the positive cable is fully clamped down on the positive part of my battery.

And this is with the key off, my buddy says that should not be happening but isnt to sure why its happening. I live about 30 blocks from my buddys house and I am about to go get some video footage of what I am going through to share with the forum to see what is going on.

I have also read that I should D/C my O2 sensor's one at a time while testing to see if my efi fuse continues to blow. If I can just get one good fuse after D/C a certain O2 sensor then that means i have found my short and need to replace or repair the wire, right?

If anyone is willing to help me out with this issue I will have videos of whats going on linked soon. Thanks to anyone and everyone who takes the time in reading my post. Very much appreciated. God bless.

Do you have any smell inside the car, around the area where you said the smoke was coming out from? YOu description seem to indicate that you might have fried the ECU. Get a circuit diagram, unplug all the circuits that are connected to it, put in a circuit breaker, then start reconnecting the circuits with the closest one to the fuse first.

If I remember correctly, the ECU and circuit open relay for the fuel pump seats right below the radio area.

Good Luck,

I found the ECU, small computer board that was in a small box with a 4-5 inch speaker. The computer looked great, brand new almost. I am not to sure what a Circuit Open relay is, I like teaching myself these kinda things so I will do the research on the Circuit Open Relay, but if you could share what you know about it that would be great. But I didn't see anything else besides the ECU which I pulled out. I will be heading back down to my buddies tomorrow to work on it all day since it's the last day I have off. I don't like leaving things broken, bugs the crap out of me. But unfortunately I only know so much about cars, now if it was a computer, it would of been fixed in a jiffy. . Thanks again N.E.O.
