Unhappy No Overdrive anymore...

Ok so here's my story:

I was planning on re-routing my overdrive button today and in doing so, I had to pull the stock shift knob out. Ya know that blue protective coat around the 2 overdrive wires? Well, I pulled my shift knob out way to f***ing hard and 2 white wires (the overdrive wires) just snapped. So I go, oh that's ok, i'll just cut the blue until i get to where there's the pair of white and I'll strip 'em and wire. No problem right?

Snip, snip, snip, snip...oh crap. Where the f*** are the pair of white wires? Well I panic, but still thinking "it's ok...i'll push the blue wire down the shaft until it comes under and out another hole." Well guess what, it never did. Now I can't even see that blue wire cover that has my overdrive wires in it. F***!

One good thing i did was put a blue 194 bulb under the P-R-N-D-2-L panel. But that will soon dissapear since i'm planning on put a boot over the whole damn thing.....

Anyways, does anybody know what I should do...if anything? Right now, there's no overdrive (and no way to turn it on/off that i know of). Does it really matter? If I want it back, i'm thinking i would have to go to the dealer or a mechanic who lives and breaths Toyota to find some way to fix it for me.

What should I do?

Your only way is to remove the shifter assembly and trace that wire back. After you find it, extend the bitch so you don't lose it again.

Jesus. This is gonna suck. I tried taking that damn assembly off, but I don't think that'd be smart since my tools aren't that great and i don't wanna fuck up any further. With that said...

Do I even need overdrive? I'm just a daily teenage driver. If anyone honestly thinks that I absolutely need it, do you think it'd be smart to go to the dealer to have this fixed? I don't think they'd charge me that much

I would say "fuck it" but the wires might short, and you could end up with a problem. Its up to you. If the wires arent touching, I think o/d is off... can't remember tho...

How long are the wires left on the button?

I can't say for sure how long they are, but given the fact that i can't see them (can't even find the damn blue wire cover for them), i'm gonna go out on a limb and see they're really really really short in length.

The O/D button should be a ground-type, so perhaps when it senses a full ground, it turns the O/D on. It should be safe from being shorted because the wire is not a hot one.

I would fix it ASAP because without overdrive, your gas mileage will suck pretty bad. Especially if you are on the freeway, the O/D keeps the engine RPM down to save gas and engine wear... Without O/D, you will put a lot of unnecessary "RPM's" on your engine.

Tony, the thing is. My o/d is currently on. If it was off, it would say "O/D OFF" in the middle of tachometer/speedometer underneath the PRND2L lights, right? That's what i think. That light currently isn't on, suggesting that my overdrive is on. If the two wires senses a full ground, the LED would turn on and my overdrive would be turrned off.

That sounds right doesn't it?

Fuck, i think i still should make an attempt to fix it since i mounted the switch in anticipation for doing this project and as it stands right now, it's not getting any use.

Cool, so the O/D is still on? I thought that an open circuit at the switch would mean the O/D is off..

I guess you can sit down and relax... worry about the problem later when you have spare time to fix it... If O/D is on, then I guess you only lose the option of turning O/D off. No big deal
