Ok, I've been very loosely toying with the idea of cold air for my car. To hell with the fact it's winter and I shouldn't be doing anything performace ( and to hell with the fact I gotta drop a new muffler on this weekend. I don't think this one's been asked yet, and if it has I'll ban myself from TN:
I was looking on Ebay at a cheap gen4 CAI and thought... the pipe seems to bend such that it would fit my gen2 if I tilted the mass air on its side and the kit I was looking at was less than $50. There are some bungs welded on for what I presume are vacuum lines but I could block them off easily. (Gen2's don't have them) Here's the kit: (bidding might close before you see this)

Short ram, cold air, well I guess I deserve one of these upside my head
I've given a lot of thought to bending my own and may still do that, but more short-ram style b/c I don't have anything that'll cut through the fender or I'd set it up like yours (Would a 30,000 rpm Dremel work?). Already have an adapter from the Ebay cone I had on originally, now I have a K&N Filtercharger cone from a Mustang on there (it's smaller than the Ebay cone and not as flashy (read: ricey, ghey. what have you).
Therefore I'll stop being a lazy fuck and build my own

Sounds good, and cheap (I know that particular pipe costs jack shit), but exactly what was wrong with compression bending? I'd think mandrel-bent is the way to go, no?
I'm gonna search for the homemade cold-air thread I know is around here somewhere and look into it, just gotta figure out how the 180º pipe is cut for this to work
Steve
As for figuring out the 180 pipe...HELP ON THIS PLEASE!!! Somehow it's not making any sense to me

Compression / crimp bending puts crimps into the pipe. So the area that gets bent ends up being smaller then the rest of the pipe.
With mandrel bending theres no crimps.

88LE saves my ass yet again... thanks dude. That setup he has on that del Sol looks easy. I knew what the 180 pipe was, I just wasn't sure how it would be cut to match the shape of the stock rubber hose leading to the mass air but it looks easy enough. As the directions for the cold air said: "...use your imagination..." I can dig that

The section of pipe from the throttle body to AFM is mostly straight with a curve towards the end.
So you can pretty much cut the pipe in the middle of the u-bend.
Well if I'm correct he has an I4 not a V6 so he doesnt really need an adapter since us I4 guys don't have an AFM . Our CAI is pretty easy to make, just find the right degree bends !!!!!!!

88LE thank you. BTW is it possible to paint the PVC couplings? I'm planning gloss black pipe with medium blue painted couplings to keep it fairly low-key.

Well if you want blue couplings I recommend that you get them in silicone. Samco Sport (www.samcosport.com) makes em.
You have to go through a distributor to get them though since they don't sell direct.
