Question 1998 Camry bypass the A/C – belt the alternator only…

Hello.
Son has our old 1998 Camry 6 cylinder. A/C clutch did the meltdown. Kid is low on $$$ and I would like to bypass the compressor pulley and run a belt from main pulley to alternator only. Anyone ever try this and if so what belt was used – part #, length, where purchased etc…?
Thanks in advance, Leon Geiser.

I don't think there is a belt for this since AC is standard all models.

My best guess and it only a guess is to use that V6 belt that doesn't include the AC from previous generation V6 Engine would be 3VZFE.

Differnce 1MZFE and 3VZFE engine

edit:

I found the Part Number
16361A BELT, V (FOR FAN AND ALTERNATOR)

You could try measuring the lenght of the belt needed using a piece of rope to run around both pulleys. Mark the lenght needed with a sharpie. Now remove the rope and measure the length needed. Then take that to any auto parts store and tell them you need the normal diameter belt in this new length. They should be able to figure this out for you. I would also disconnect the electrical connector to the a/c, just to be safe. Also note that the defroster might not work as well in humid conditions, as the system integrates the a/c in the defrost mode to help dehumidfy the winshield.

Does the car have power steering? Can't forget about that pulley.

Hello again.
Follow up on this project;
Had to remove pulley from A/C unit to clear path for belt. Clean shot from there with a 37 & 7/8th inch 6 rib belt purchased @ NAPA. Power steering runs on another belt so not affected. Runs quiet n clean so in conclusion, it CAN be done. Thanks to everyone for the replies.
Until next time, Leon Geiser.
