Guys and Girls, listen... I have some dough (not too much) and I want to know what to do I have a 5sfe. I know that there is a turbo out there for the car, but is it worth it with all teh work and parts it wiould be like $4000.00
The engine swap is another idea, but I am not sure what is involved in the process. Some one with knowledge and maybe even links please help me with this...
Let me know everything I need to know about what is involved in the process of the turbo for my 5sfe or swap to the 1MZ...
I am sure there must be more experienced people out here than me on this topic but I think installing a 3.0 engine would require a very hard work but also and mostly many more parts that you can think of (wiring harness, ecu, fuel rail,...)
I am currently turbocharging my 5sfe engine (camry) with used parts I found mostly on ebay and I have to say it didn't cost me a lot of money. It depends of course how much more power you want to get but if you just want it reasonnable it shouldn't cost you too much.
Here is roughly what you need :
-3sgte manifold (2.0 turbo from Celica or MR2)
-3sgte turbo
-oil lines (return + feed)
-intercooler (a +)
-a few air pipes
-miscalleneous smaller parts that you can find afterwards
ok cool, cool, I have also looked into RIPPMODS supercharer, pushes 249.75 HP at the crank with 9psi supercharger. $3199.00 for the entire kit with everything you need, what do you think?
Its about how much you want to spend and what you want in return.... A. spend 3500 on a turbo kit make 200 hp and be happy? B. Swap a 3sgte in 245hp (or 220 keep the flames down) roughly 6grand extremely reliable power lots of money. C. Swap a 1mz or a 3vz for 200 n/a hp for about 4 grand.... Now iron out what you want if you want extreme hp the only option is the 3sgte or a v6 swap im not gonna give my opinion on which one is better cause this will turn into a flame war... You can also make a hybrid motor by taking your 5sfe block do some machining (im not gonna get into here) Put the 3sgte head and turbo on it. This is the ultimate source for the most complete H.P option ask wraith hell tell ya... But like i said its about money cause that will run you about 10 grand after the machining is done... SO its about what you can afford vs what you want
thnax tony, i want to keep it under 4K and 225 HP ould satiosfy me, so it looks like the best thing for me to do is to get the RIPPmods Supercharger kit for the 5sfe. thanks for your input.

I think that's it
Good luck !
hey nico you can use the 3s-gte oil pump and oil pan ... it bolts right up...
cool. i didn't know the 3sgte oil pump bolted right on to the 5sfe blick.
Wraith, I'm not going to use the stock oil feed/returns lines on the ct26, i'm gonna use SS lines, do you think i should still get the 3sgte pan or just stick with the stock one, and tap it for an oil source?

still suggest using the oil pump and the oil pan... Sh!t while your at it you can use the 3s-gte water pump too...

these are the last things people think about cooling...
Yup, engine oil cooler is much more important than say a larger radiator. Most stock motors come with a pathetic water-oil heat exchanger (sometimes none), and most of the time the engine oil would be burning hot while the coolant temperature still looks fine.

Hey Wraith, doesnt the 3SGTE oil pan only fit 5SFE blocks that dont have balance shafts? (ie. earlier Camrys, most MR2s, Celicas)
Because when Jeff was trying to install a 3SGTE oil pan on his 96 Camry 5SFE, it wouldnt fit properly because of the balance shaft hardware interfering.
Maybe you can shed some light on this, since you play with S blocks.
