I'm conflicted, 1mz or 3vz

Ive been reading up on the subject. I love the aluminum block for weight advantages but I love the 3vz for forced induction advantages. I have a few specific questions that will help me pick my donor car.

First off, heres the application, and everything I know already. The recipiant is an 88' Celica GTS LB. The intended purpose for the project is a drag racable, streetable, canyon road worthy beast. I know it's a tall order. Now my celica handles great and I'm concerned what a 3vz might do to the weight balance and handling charactoristics. However boost is in the works and the 3vz is boost happier.

What intake pressure in psi has been safely achieved on an internally stock 3vz? I already know the 1mz no likey the boost stock 6psi max or somthin?

Heres the deal breaker... with the 1mz I would do a stock configured swap, then aquire a secondary 1mz to build for high boost, collect all the turbo and supporting parts, then put together.

If I could support 10-12psi with a stock 3vz block I may be tempted to do the swap and turbo/sc in the same step.

And since we are on the subject, v6 MTs are hard to come by right? Why not use a s53 from a 3sfe celica. Kaaz lsd should make that transaxle pretty respectable.

At the end, I'm pullin for the 1mz... maybe 3mz

Sorry for the newbster style post, jus wanted to hear from the camry/solara guys

ok I gathered some more info.

nix the s53 idea due to carrier bearing issues.

a stock 3vz shouldn't be pushed past 10psi?

so I'm gonna opt for a stock 1mz. boost will be seperate project involving a seperate bullet proof longblock.

Once again, sorry for newbin it up.

3rd Generation

Tranny = e153

And 1mz is a solid option, just make sure you get a good working engine from a reputable seller
