The spring on my 95 camry seems to be very weak that it will not hold up anymore when opening the hood. I have had to put a hammer to hold the hood up. This isnt really safe esp when sticking my head in the hood. Is there something I can buy that will hold up the hood better? I've seen those heavy metal poles in the hood on some cars. Any advise would be much appreciated!
Doesn't it have those gas filled struts on each side? If yes, one or both of them need to be replaced. They spring a leak and lose their gas charge and then don't provide lifting force any more. They're typically ~$30 each. Pretty easy job.

A safer alternative until you replace the hood struts is to use a pair of vice grips. Just clamp them on either strut on the smaller diameter rod, just below where it goes in to the bigger diameter rod.
