oil pressure question

im going to be installing my gauges for my gauge pod in the morning. one of the gauges that i have is an oil pressure gauge. will it effect my ecu if i disconnect the factory oil pressure sensor or should i tee off the inlet an attach both the stock pressure sensor and the one for the new gauge?

thanks,
brian

I would T off of it just to be safe.

If the stock sensor is not connected the low oil pressure light will light up.

I don't know if the ecu will trip out or not if you don't have it connected.

No it won't. I checked the wiring diagram for my '96 4-cyl and the wire that runs from the oil pressure sensor on the head only controls the idiot light.

The factory sensor trips the dash light at 4psi. Most of the oil press sending units out there that have a terminal for an idiot light also turn the light on at around 7 or 8 pis. I got a VDO since it was the closest (at 7psi) and the idiot light was on a lot at idle. When the car is warm, it does generate around 7 psi...that is normal.

so what I did was to put the original Toyota sensor back in, tee'd the oil port on the head and added my VDO sending unit there. Everything works perfectly!
