Rear Warning Light Problem

I have a 1993 Camry LE V6 with 125,000 miles on it. The rear-light warning light is constantly on on the dashboard near the speedometer. I have checked the brake and backup lights and they seem to be working properly. The other problem is that each time the brake pedal is pressed, the reverse light lights up. (The "R" light under "P" between the speedometer and the RPM meter) (futher clarification: By "reverse light" I am not talking about the tailight, I am talking about the orange "R" that should light up when I shift to reverse).

If anyone knows the solution to either of these problems, it would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same problem. When I bought my Gen. 3 camry from my friend he told me that he took it in to get that service and they fixed it but it came back. My dad told me there is a short somewhere, for the ground wire. But I do this when it alot warmer here in chicago.

Does anyone else have the same problem expect for me and dtmolt?

Check the wires in the trunk in the top left side...a wire has either snapped or shorted.

Do a search on this, it's been covered a million times...tons of us has had similar problems.

Thumbs up

Thanks for all your help. There was a snapped brownish wire in the wire bundle near the left side trunk hinge. It was on the outside of the bundle and could be seen with out cutting any of the electrical tape.
