my dad challenged me to make my camry as fast or faster than his z3... the z3 is the 2.8 liter version. i highly doubt i'd be able to make it handle as well but for speed is it do-able?
i wouldn't know exactly how much faster the camry's gotta be to catch up to the z3 cause i just got my permit two and a half months ago and i have never been to the track with either of the cars (still learning to drive manual too)
EDIT: i did a little spec-research, the z3 is a 1998 2.8liter 6 cylinder (not sure if its inline or v) producing 189hp@5300rpm and 203lbs@3950 with a 5 speed manual and weighs about 2850 lbs
im not sure about the camry's specs actually but you guys should know that

power is pretty similar, camry only weighs a couple hundread lbs more. if you'd get a 5spd transmission and some intake/exhaust mods you'd be pretty close
yeah... i think i want to put a manual transmission first because that would definately enhance the the fun of driving aside from trying to beat the z3. i think my first foray will be a homemade cai, that seems simple enough. i dont have all that much money to dump into my car, i have about 350 bucks right now. the cai i could probably do for under 100 bucks?
eventually if/when i do a manual swap i think i could have a chance cause my dad is not that good at shifting
i like that challenge your dad has set you. depending on how much you want to spend, its do-able to your cam, but first off, i'd recommend you to get more experience in driving before adding more power to your car.

Hey, you gotta pay to play! Quit thinking of putting $100 or $200 on the car... think more like $3000 to $5000 on the car
As for difficulty, I'd say installing a supercharger on the Gen3 is much easier than custom turbocharging the 1MZ... I don't get what's with the issues with installing the S/C on a Gen3... The SC bolts up, the pulley system works, and the problems are really minor -- EGR tube, EBC, wiring, etc... Just install a good tuning system and those bugs can be solved in no time

Not sure if you could ever beat him off the line but you could get him from about 30 feet on if you spend big bucks like Tony suggests. However your total cost would still be a fraction of the cost of a Z3.

Hmmm. If he has a 5-speed it's not going to be that easy. I drove around the Z3 2.8's all the time and it's fast compared to my 92 5-speed Camry. You would have to use a big power adder to get him.
i have an idea supercharge your car or do custum turbo and put about 75 shots of nitrous. then take your car and tell your dad to take his car to the track then off the line ram into his car you will be guarenteed the victory
Here's the plan.
1. You bet your dad a shitload of money
2. You do some cheap ass DIY mods
3. Pull out one or two of his fuel injectors when he's not at home or if he has an intake, tape a towel around it to block all the air coming in.
4. After you take his money, go buy a turbo for you car and kick his ass fair and square.
Haha cheat to win. "Winning's Winning. It doesnt matter if you win by an inch or....." nah, i'm joking, that was gay.
But yeah, instead of making your car faster, just make his car go slower, and then when you can afford it, THEN add shit to your car.
