farewell to the camry community

my car has suffered a blown head gasket, among a few other maintenance related issues that occured when the gasket blew. at over 162,000 miles, the car was starting to shudder as it started and got warmed up. gradually the shudder became worse, but always stopped as soon as the car was warm. on my way to domino's one night however, the car started shaking violently, and my engine temp skyrocketed.

since i was right outside dominos, i killed the engine and drifted in the parking lot. looking behind my car, i saw white smoke

drove it home, smoking white all the way. drove it to toyota service, they told me i had a blown head gasket, drove (well mostly coasted) home and its now been in my garage for a couple weeks.

unfortunately, my parents have deemed it unreasonable to keep the car. when they get something fixed, its done by toyota (and they wanted $1900+). after much speculation as to my decision, i have decided my camry will live on with another camry owner on this board- dave zoni. i will not be driving a car till this summer, but im definitely staying with the toyota family!!

in may, as some of you know, toyota is releasing the corolla XRS- a new corolla with a retuned celica gts motor (170hp 2zzge), 6speed manual, all new performance suspension, new interior, the works. im planning on being the first person to get one of these off the lot

ive talked with sean about this a lot, since he wanted intially to rebuild the camry with his newly acquired engine overhaul skills (and it gave him reason to buy air tools!!!!). well anyway, he has mentioned to me the possibility of expanding CTM to corolla owners as well.

overall, i am a mix of feelings... in one hand im sad about having to give up on the camry, but on the other hand im glad its going into good hands, and im going to hopefully be driving a car i will like equally as much!

edit: BTW im not parting it out, im selling the bodykit to nick (who lives down the street) and the rest of the parts are staying on the car for zoni, so dont ask if you can buy any parts from me! already sold- sorry

im sorry to hear, i found out that one day in that mini chat, but, i'm glad to hear the car will be put to good use, and that you're sticking with the Toyota family...

That sucks, oh well, I'd hoped I would get to meet you since I live in Cincy and come to some of the SRD cruise-ins. I'd like to see your cam when zoni gets done with it.

OK guys, as many of you may know, i had been planning on swappin gmy 4cyl out for a 3vz and a standard tranny. This is the perfect opportunity to get that accomplished, and use the engine i already pulled out of another car...

here are my plans for camry1...

-drive 700miles to Jon's place
-drive 700miles back with the car on a trailer
-get it running with the 3vz parts i have in my basement and some TIME
-install my newly aquired bodykit (same front and rear as the old one, just cyber/shogun style sides)
-get her inspected and on the road
-sell my car
-use money for a new paintjob. im thinking a mid blue color like Daytona Blue , from a new Nissan 350z
-Rebuild the extra set of 3vz heads with whatever extra money i might have or i might have to save a little more.
-install the rebuilt heads, and the fidanza flywheel and spec stage 3 clutch i already have.
-look toward the future (turbo or move out of the house. whichever seems more important at the time)

i will attach a pic of what the camry MIGHT look like with a blue color such as that and my chrome rims. let me know what you think of it. keep in mind that it is a very badly done, rough photochopped mock up.

dave sure is lucky... he picked up that wrecked v6 a while back but didnt think he'd be able to do the engine swap into his car but now he got yours

I heard about the whole incident with Razo-E as well. Sad I must say, I just hope you can get another awesome Toyota, whether it is the 2zzge XRS or a older boosted MR2.

hey jwa.... that totally sucks... the 3vz feels so solid, i would expect it to run forever ...ahaha

is ther esomething you suspect that mgith of caused this problem??

you do any tunning to your car??? like timing advance or any thing like that??

or maybe your timing/ timing belt was going bad

had you done any maintenace repairs on your car??

what would you do different if you knew you could prevent this so that it wont happen to the rest of us.
