Car Wont Start

On my 1995 camry, I accidentally left my car in reverse overnight. When I attempted to turn on the engine this morning, it wouldn't start. I tried to jump start it but it still didn't work, therefore, the battery isn't the issue. I'm not sure if leaving the car in reverse contributed to my car not starting. Please help.

Did you try both in Park and Neutral? You did put it back in Park before trying to start it, right? Had to ask!

If you had left it in reverse, that would mean the key was in the ignition and some of the electrical circuits might have been left on, which could drain the battery.

For some reason, I can remove my key from the ignition while still in reverse. I put it back in Park. I came back almost two hours later and the car started. Leaving it in reverse definitely drained the battery. Thank you!

If you can remove your key with it in reverse then your shifter interlock is not functioning properly.

... and your car will start only in "Park" or "Neutral"!
This is a safety feature.
