Tired of the rattle...

Ok, before anyone tells me to try the "search" function, I have already done that and been through all of the threads relating to my question, but I would like to ask an opinion and for some advice specific to my car.

I have a 2000 camry with 2 12" JL audio w3's in my trunk. They hit pretty hard and sound great from inside the car, but from outside it sounds like my trunk is going to explode. I've already put something behind my license plate so that no longer vibrates but my trunk, my poor little trunk.

I want to add some deadening material to my trunk area. I've heard about RaamMat, brown bread (sp?), fatmat, and dynamat but I really don't know which one to choose. You guys with 4th gen cam's, what material did you use, how good were the results, and how much of it would I need?

Thanks!

Hey,

I installed a Rockford Power HX2 12' in my car wired with a 800s amp.(max power of 2400 watts). My car rattles like hell. Ive heard that duct tape works just as well as that other stuff you listed above, but this is soo much cheaper. I plan on putting a few layers of duct tape on my car this weekend, maybe that will stop some of the rattling. When i listen to my car though, not only the bumper and spare tire rattle, but also the metal container that the rear tire is in rattles. (My tire stores inside the trunk). But my suggestion is maybe trying duct tape? Ive had a few friends do that....

you guys need to go to home depot and get some "Peel and SEAL"

it's silver on top and the sticky part is black and it kinda smells like tar. it's used to insulate home windows and roofs.

get this it's teh same exact thing as Dynamat. but 8bucks for 6feet. if i figure out wat it's called i will let u konw.

i was too cheap to buy the good stuff (ie Dynamat)

Home Depot is a big ghetto-style car mod department if you ask me. here's what i used.

any advice/directions on how to go about his? i know i will need to take out my spare tire and remove all of the carpeting, then clean the surfaces. anything else I should know? do i overlap the pieces? do i put it everywhere i see metal?

thanks.

lol...over here we call that 'flash-band' because it's pretty much roof sealant tape and it's shiny so it reflects the sun during the day...hence the name...flash-band

Looks kinda tacky to have that on ur car IMO...there's a spray insulator u can get called Dakron(sp?) that does the job for pretty cheap (most dudes use it when they're building custom enclosures).

But for looks, I'd use the dynamat if it's just the trunk lid even tho it's s bit pricey (I'm actually looking for one for under my hood to keep engine noise and heat under control) and it's removable for cleaning in case moisture and gunk gets trapped under there.
lol...but you're free to use the flash-band if u only open ur trunk when nobody else is around

Since it doesn't have to take heat, why don't u just make ur own trunk lining?
U can use floor carpet foam and mold it and cover with upholstery carpet for a REAL custom look with ur amps mounted and stuff. It's guaranteed to look clean and professional.

best thing to do if things are "rattling" is to actually locate the objects rattling. things license plate, rear tailt light assembly, rear package tray and deck. and side panels in car. possilbly the support bars on the trunk lid.

stuff some crap in places to stop rattling, old shirts, foam packaging, etc. then go from there.

turn system on and go to town.

much cheaper than buying deadning and still having rattles.
if problem presits try folding rear seats down to relive the trunk pressure.

and lastly, buy somedeadning to appky to the resonating panels in trunk if it persists.

also tighten trunk latch where the lid closes if possible. so the seal and trunk and firm.

goodluck man

Well, u can buy Dynamat it's made for this. the Flash Band is is the same material. Everyone has to understand that watever u put in ur car in 1 form or the other u have it in ur house.
ie sub box, ppl prefer to get Qlogic boxes b/c they have a name, but u can go to Home Depot and make one. again there are other variable at play which im not considering but GHETTO or not it works and if u do it properly it's better then Qlogic.

This Peal and Seal stuff is the same way. Dynamat is exnpesive this is a cheap solution, and a good solution b/c u can add two or 3 layers instead of 1 layer of $200 dynamat. Ghetto but works.

im not blowing smoke ive done it, along with a few TN members and a few of my friends and trust me it sounds GREAT!. no more rattles and vibrations CLEAN SOUND!!!

So u can take the expensive way or the more Ecnomonical way.. either way ur paying for the same product when it gets down to it. peel and seal = 8 bucks and dynamat = 90. ur choice.

thanks for the replys guys. i'm going to look for that peel n seal stuff and go to work. i just didn't want to attack my car haphazardly though. what i mean is that i know my trunk rattles, but i'm not exactly sure of what is rattling. i've already taken care of the license plate and i have a stock spoiler but i don't think that rattles so much.

should i just start with the trunk lid? do you usually have to do the trunk floor too?

it probably matters how your subs sit, but maybe the spare tire is moving around? That also might be a place to check out. Check the back bumper as well.

*shrugs* I'm kinda sceptical about using the flashband simply because it's hell to come off and I don't like the shiny stuff (looks cheap)...I'm thinkin maybe to use it on the underside of the hood (sorry if I'm stealin' ur thread Cheeba)...it's to keep the heat in so my hood doesn't fade first and hopefully it'll afford me some engine noise control. I'd sooner prefer to hear just that mean-sounding hole in my exhaust

after you put this peel and seal on, you can still use the factory carpet right?

I was wondering the same thing because everyone keeps saying that it'll look ghetto if you use peel n seal, but how will it look bad if the factory carpet goes back over it.

So, do you not put the factory carpet back on? Does it no longer fit?
