Recently I bought a pair of light bulbs from a store down in USA through the internet. The item costs 52 Cdn dollars + shipping, and it was shipped by UPS, when I received it, I have to pay an extra 23 Cdn dollars for some kind of fee (border-crossing fee or whatever they call it)
Does anyone encounter the same problem? Is there any way I can avoid it?

Yes I encounter that problem a few times a month. That problem is in fact 2 things.

1) Canadian Customs likes your ass so they give it to you up there.
2) UPS charges you a "brokerage" fee. They are a great courier comany, offer great tracking services and fast shipment. BUT you pay for it big time.

There are ways to avoid this, but it is not legal and for obvious reasons I will not share on here. Feel free to e-mail me though. Like I said before, I have no inhibitions keeping what's mine from the Government.

Smuggling.
Let me know what you want and I'll pick it up on my next drug run.

If you have somebody on the oppsite side of the boarder get it and ship it to you, via regular mail and declare its value at like $5 or something you shouldnt have to pay anything.

Just stay away from UPS and use USPS instead.

"Border fees" are called import duties, aka tarriffs. Almost every country in the world charges them. It's to protect their domestic economy.

can you request a store to send an item via USPS? Some stores do give you the option but some stores don;t right?
can you really ask a store to ship an item to you as a "warranty replacement" as mentioned in the website?
has anyone done that??

You should try and ask the store itself. I do that all the time and if they ship UPS only, then I won't bother because of all the taxes. Never asked a store to send it as a war. repl. but try asking the store, they might just do it.

Does FedEx also charges those brokerage fees? are they generally higher or lower than UPS?
Anyone here in Toronto know a good store to buy spoiler from?
(low price and without lots additional surcharges such as the brokerage fee for shipping?)
