On my Gen 2 I'm getting a clicking noise whenever I turn... it's cyclical too, IE it gets faster as I go faster. It only happens when I make a decent angled turn.
I fear it may be a CVJ, or something of the sort. It's coming from the right front wheel.
It's a 1990 Gen 2 SV21. 3SFE motor. Automatic Tranny.

you're right. It's the cv joint, usually the outer boot tears letting all the heavy grease out and letting all the dirt that you drive thru, in and it tears up the bearings. Fortunately complete axles have dropped in price over the years and if you're a do it yourselfer it is not a hard job
I did as you said, and turned the wheels so I could look at the axle boot. It's split open. Both of them actually. But the right one makes alot of noise. The left doesn't make noise yet, but I imagine if this isn't fixed it'll become a problem as well. The boots are completely seperated... Like they came apart at one of the bulges.
Any one have any idea... like a ball park estimate of how much this might cost me?

I am having th same problem with my camry, I have a 2000 4bangger. I suppose I would cost about 120 bucks at the shop installed, but maybe a little more...
I get one click as i make a full turn. I see that theres grease on my boot left outter one. BUT... the grease will dissappear sometimes and sometimes it'll come back.. and there is no tear in the rubber.. Anyone know what my situation is?
i only get a click or two when i make a left handed u-turn and it comes from the right Front side. However i checked both boots and there is no grease, nor any tears, the boots are in mint condition, what could it be?

Back to the price issue. 10 - 20 bucks for the boot only if you do it yourself. For the one that is clicking a new axle is a good idea, or new bearings at least (don't know if you can get just the bearings).
