1997 taller tires?

I have a stock 97 Camry with the stock wheels (195/70/R14) at 24.7 tall and I want to raise the car about an 1 1/2 inches. The 195/80/R14 is 26.3 inches tall which appears to do what I want without upgrading to 15" rims. Has anyone done this or know if they will fit ok? My car rides a bit low and I am looking for a easy fix for ride height. Any comments welcomed.

The tire will need to clear your struts. That's the only physical fitment issue you may run into.

However, it's not something I would recommend.

- The taller sidewalls will make your handling suffer
- Your speedometer will read slower.
- Your net gain in ride height is only 1/2 of the 1.6". The only increase in ride height is from the centerline of your axle to the contact patch on the road (bottom), the other half is just filling empty space in your wheelwell.
- Try finding a 195/80R14 size at a tire store, you'll be lucky to find even trailer tires in that size...

I doubt you can find 195/80/R14 size tire... they are not standard fitment for any cars out there unless it custom made.

Thanx for the replies. I found a set of tires and rims off of a 2008 Camry. They are 16 inch rims, but no reply yet on the tire size. It is stock, so they should be P215/60/R16. Do you think they will be okay on my 97. The tire calculator looks ok, but anyone with direct knowledge welcomed. Love to raise the car about an inch. The re-calculating of the speedo will not be a prob.

OK, the new tire size is P215/60/R16 (P215/60R16/94V) and my stock 97 has the 195/70/R14.

Anyone ever try this? The reason I ask here is because I like to get opinions from those that tried or would know for sure. I hate to drive 100 miles round trip to find out they wont fit good. I look at the calculator and it doesn't seem too drastic.

Thanx in advance
