I'd like to take my current airbag and use it with a Toyota-style leather steering wheel. Is there a reference list somewhere of the steering wheels from other Toyotas that will fit a Camry (4th gen, if it matters)?
I'm looking specifically at '97+ ES300 and Solara leather steering wheels, and I've done a lot of picture browsing... they look similar, but I'm not sure if the airbag would fit or if the electronics would be compatible... I read about the Type A, B, C nightmare and I don't think I'm technically proficient enough to mess with that.
The TRD jdm and Camry 2002 SE wheels are out of my price range, so I'm looking for wheels from wrecks or ebay, mainly. Any other suggestions or comments would be welcome. Thanks guys =)
The airbag and steering wheel are direct fit from the Solara or pre-2002 ES300s. The steering wheel will bolt on and the airbag is a plug type harness. However, you may have to splice some wires for the horn and cruise.

ahh ok, yea in the thread started he mentioned he had a gen 4 so i was seeing if the applications you mentioned were proprietary to just gen4's. thanks for the info!
Yeah I've studied about 80 different photos of camry, es300, and solara steering wheels from different angles, years, and colors. I was actually curious about the fitment of the specific airbag unit from my gen4 onto the rim of an es300 or solara (not using the entire es300 or solara assembly). I don't think I can afford a steering wheel along with a new airbag unit, I'll have to make do with my old one.
From what I can see, the wheels and airbag sizes look to be about the same. In any case, I guess I'll pick up a es300 steering wheel rim from a junkyard (cheapest I've seen online is about $150 incl. shipping) and try it sometime in the next month. Should I post my results here? (does anyone care? hehe) =)
