Heater Core Removal

My girlfriend has a 2000 camry, 4-banger.
When we start up the car and and turn on the heater, steam comes out of the vents and it smells like coolant, which means to me a heater core leaking.
My question is, what exactly do I have to remove to get to it?
I read autozone's website and they use jargon like "remove #1 instrument panel, then remove lower left panel", which means nothing to me.
How much work am I in for if I decide to tackle this myself?

I have been lucky enough not to have to do this job on any of my Carmys, but I can suggest you go over to the Camry forum at AutomotiveForums.com and download the generation 4 Toyota factory service manual stickied at the top of that forum. This is a free download and it should have the information you need.

Good luck.

Mike

The heater should be pretty easy to remove.

The dash does not need to be removed just the lower panels.
