And so today I completed Phase 1, the ordering...

so $1200-1300 dollars later, here is what I got.

3sge 5 speed transmission $150
Clutch masters lightweight flywheel $400
ACT level 1 clutch $300
2nd gen 4 cyl shifter assembly, shifter linkages, clutch & brake pedal, and clutch master cylinder all for $135
4 cyl instrument cluster with tach $50
New Tokico Slave Cylinder $20
New release bearing $30
TWM short shifter for 90-91 Celica 145

The only things I have not ordered I will be getting are new pedal covers (cause I absolutely hate the stock slippery rubber ones) and a TRD shift knob.

I will be taking the car to the shop on Monday and hopefully it will be back on the road by mid January with the 5 speed swap complete. That 500 mile break in period is gonna really suck though.

Edit: turns out I don't need the release bearing. Comes with most aftermarket clutches.

Where did you find the 3s-ge tranny? Used or rebuilt?

What motor is the flywheel supposedly designed for?

I'll need to swap a new tranny in after I get the motor running (and the car is 'legal' to drive). I guess I'm lucky 'cause I can just straight drop the tranny in w/ almost no modification.

3sge tranny came from a junkyard in Ohio and is used. Only 60k miles on it so I am not really worried. The flywheel is for the 3sfe since I still have that engine but the clutch has to be for the trans which is the 3sge.

No problem. I forgot to mention by the way, I found all my used parts at www.car-parts.com It is a directory of parts from junkyards all across the nation and makes finding what you need for cheap extremely easy.

Hey Charlie you might stil be able to use the flywheel for the 3sge. You have to find out how many bolts you have either the 6 or 8 bolt. I Can never remember how many the 3sge has but if you have as many as the 3sge then you can jsut use it if no then you have to use the 3sfe one.

Yeah that is true, I forgot about that. The 3sfe only has 6 bolts, the 3sge has 8, and some later model 2nd gens (90-91) also had 8 bolts. If you have 8, then the 3sge flywheel works like Harmer said.

Both my old Camry and the one I have now are the later version. In fact, my '90 Camry even has the updated turn signals and tail lights of the '91 its so late in '90. Anyway - I'll keep that in mind. Its nice to know that getting a tranny will be that cheap. I should be able to do all the work myself with some of my friends...

You can also use a 3S-GTE flywheel if your 3S-FE has a 8 bolt crank.
