I replaced the starter in my 1996 Camry LE V6 wagon and afterward the "check Engine" light came on and stayed on. Everything is hooked back up and the car is running fine after an extended road test. I assume the light just needs reset.
Does anyone know how to reset the check engine light?
Did you disconnected the MAF sensor and turn the key on?
Pull the EFI fuse, and see if the light goes off, if it still stays on, disconnect the battery. Otherwise, you might want to pull the code and see what circuit is causing the CEL.

N.E.O.
I did forget to reconnect the MAF sensor before trying to start the car after the new starter was installed. When it would not stay running, I rechecked and found the sensor still disconnected and then reconnected it.
The battery was disconnected during the starter replacement.

Thanks for the help.
It's 1:00 am now and dark, but I'll try it tomorrow and post what happens.
I didn't get out to reset it today with Christmas going on but I'm going to do it first thing in the morning. I need to reapply corrosion inhibitor to the positive terminal of the battery anyway, so I assume that will reset the CEL when I disconnect and reconnect the battery. I'll give a close check to make sure everything else is connected correctly as well. It did do fine on an extended road test of about 45 miles after the intial job was done.
