The name itself says it Cat Back and that means that the cat is almost at the back of the exhaus pipe before the muffler !!!

its hairy, like a cat's back... you know, its also called a furry exhaust...

but seriously now... the CAT is the catalitic converter. when you say cat-back, it is the piping from the CAT back to and including the muffler... its better than just getting a muffler, cause you get the bigger piping all the way back... the BEST way to go is custom exhaust manifold to high flow cat to custom exhaust...

if by custom exhaust manifold you mean turbo exhaust manifold, then you're right...that is the best way to go

but as zoni has said, a cat-back exhaust is piping from the cat on back...or the piping starting where the cat ends all the way till the muffler...

and i'm going to guess that by "regular" exhaust system you mean just a muffler...aftermarket mufflers just take out the sound deadening material so you get that "souped up" sound...it doesn't really add any hp since the stock piping you have hasn't changed

phatty, by saying custom exhaust manifold... not turbo manifold... two different things. turbo is the best thing to do to an engine in my opinion, then you get upgrades that facilitate more boost.

yeah i took that to be just a muffler too...

most states require a catalitic converter, also that cleans up the smell and look of the exhaust, so your car doesnt smell like butt to drive behind... so people get hi-flow cats like i just got...
