So can we call this a common problem? It's not a heavy leak. I don't think it's leaking anywhere near the reservoir. It's one of those "annoying" problems.
Hmmm, never heard of the leak in a Gen 3. I know my uncle has a gen 4, and they replaced the powersteering rack twice now. Heard it was a design flaw along with the strut bearings, and supposedly brakes too.

NO i would not do that, i tried it and it fucked my steering up for a month until the shit cycled through. Either find the leak and fix it or keep adding fluid every month or so like i do.

pretty much the leak-stop stopped up the steering it was like it was getting no fluid that lasted for at least a month then after it leaked out i added new regular fluid and it works fine
Originally posted by Edmond I'm having a slow leak in power steering fluid. Is there a common are to look out for? I have a 94 Camry with the 1MZ-FE motor.
I'm pretty new to working with my Toyota even though I've had the car for 4 years.
the power steering pump was replaced on my japanese built 94 1MZ-FE around 100k miles, the mechanic shown me the wet oil under the vehicle near the passenger side wheel. pretty costly for me as well because i saw how they replaced it, not much room to work with.
I had that problem and it ended up being my power steering hose from my pump to the right side of the steering piston. It was one of those presurized hydraulic lines that bolts on to the power steering motor. I ended up having to take the whole pump out just to change the hose. It actually wasn't that hard to take the pump out, but I never got the belt fully tightened when I put it back in and now that belt slips so I would try to get any hose off without taking the pump out if posible.
yea i have a leak like that too, when i get to 100 there is a nasty smell and its not oil or tranny fluid, i top it off but then it leaks a bit

Yep that's actually the biggest problem with this steering pump : so easy to take off when the engine is out but otherwise it is such a f*** pain !!!!! It is also very difficult to tighten the belt as it should be. You would need someone to assist you for that
