Headlight Bulbs

I'm looking to switch over to Silverstar bulbs and I'm wondering how much of an impact the 9006 has in comparison to the 9005. I know the 9006 can be made to fit, I'm just wondering if it is actually worth the trouble, and extra push on the altenator?

Car = 1992 Camry V6 LE

i think you mean that the 9005's can be made to fit a 9006 socket...

it's not any real extra strain on the alt and imo the silverstars should be enough but everyone has their own opinion

Well, I'm not looking for white per se, I'm moreso trying to get better lighting. IE - Better nighttime visablity.

Silverstars =

I recommend them to anyone who wants great lighting and doesn't want to spend a lot of $$$ on something like PIAA's.

Philips XtraVisions are actually better than Silverstars and you should look into those, but they're rather hard to find and slightly more $$$.

I noticed more of a difference after I added an upgraded wiring harness, switched to 9005 Silverstars on low beams, and polished the headlight lenses. Just switching to Silverstars helped a little, but the harness and polishing the lenses completed the entire package.

What's the general procedure for upgrading wiring harness? Cost? Difficulty? Pain in the ass factor?

you don't really need to upgrade the harness, but it'll be a good idea....I didn't "upgrade" my harness, but I've now changed both of my lowbeam ones because after using altered 9005 bulbs for about a year now, I've melted both my stock harnesses....

I blew my connector 3 times with some aftermarket lights. If they look a bit dim, check that your lenses don't have a yellowish film on them. If they do, either get new ones, or clean them. I got new ones, and they made a big difference just going back to stock headlights.

Check here on how and why you should upgrade your harness from a car lighting specialist:
http://www.danielsternlighting.com/t...ys/relays.html
It explains how to do it yourself or you can just buy one like i did from suvlights.com. The upgrade basically uses all thicker gauge wiring than stock for power, ground, and the connections to the bulbs, and only uses the thin stock wiring to trigger the relays for the upgraded harness. You don't have to "upgrade" to thicker wires, but it may prevent you from melting your thin factory harness.

Well, my housing is crystal clear. like new. Car only has 80k on it, most of it's life was spent sitting in the garage, until i got her last May.

As for wiring harness, I don't intend on pushing anything real badly, so I don't think I'll need it. I'm gonna stay stock bulb sizes, just get the silverstar or Xtravisions.

just look at the W that the bulb uses.. stock is 55W i think, silverstars 65W.. anything past that is risky, unless you make your harness thicker

Gen3's harnesses can take 65W, I have modded Cool Blues, shown here

thats the pic that shows the blue/whiteness of the bulbs.

This is before, with the stock 9006 low beams

This is after, with the 9005 Cool Blues

hope this helps, i did see a slight difference in intensity.
