Your car didn't shift into 4th and it was 200km/h already??? Something's wrong there. If I floor mine here's the shift points:
1-2 ~60km/h
2-3 ~120km/h
3-4 ~150km/h
I've taken it as high as 216 km/h but had some sense knocked into me real quick to slow down since I did that with my snow tires which are rated at 160km/h.

ok the gen 3 autos only have 3 gears. overdrive is not a gear. with overdrive off it keeps the transmission running all the time. it's hard to explain. lets say you keep the O/D off, and go on the highway. notice how the engine stays at higher rpms because it doesn't allow the transmission to disengage and turn slower because it is off. when it is on is allows the trans to turn slower and thats why the rpms are lower. this may not make sense to you but i know what i'm talking about i just can't explain it that well. this is what i learned in school. it's kinda like it disengages the transmission until you step on the gas again, it allows you to get better gas miles and not wear on the tranny as much because it's not working as hard. thats why you have lower rpm's somewhat like when it's in neutral. if you guys from canada can say what your speed is in MPH that would be cool because i have no clue what your speeds are. the fastest i've got my gen 3 I4 so far was around 120.

Jesus christ 180 mph = 288 km/h
why on gods earth would you wanna remove that?
I mean do you really think your car can hit 288?

Dude do the math, its not hard... 1 mile = 1.6 kms.
And our auto trannys have 4 gears. OD off takes away the 4th gear only allowing you to use the first 3. OD on allows you to shift into 4th gear. Simple as that.

You're pretty much right on this one but even I've said our cars have 4 gears in our trannys. Technically, we only have 3 gears. You're explanation isn't too clear but I don't really have a better one...I just remember this from like 10 years ago.... Basically O/D has a diferrent gearing ratio, it has a faster output than input. So instead of having gear ratios like, I dunno 3:1, 2:1, or 1:1, it's like 0.5:1 for O/D. The main idea is to keep the engine rpms low with high output to save gas....
This applied to my Oldsmobile back in the day, I'm assuming it applies to all cars with O/D
