puff of smoke at first start in the morning

I have noticed a puff of bluish smoke at first start in the morning, for the rest of the day it is fine. Checked the oil level it is slightly high could that be the reson or it is someting else. Car is 95 4cyl with 80k miles.

I have to agree about the valve seals. You could try using a slightly heavier weight oil in the meantime as a temp fix so the oil doesn't burn as fast.

Yep, I paid $900+ USD to replace my valve seals and resurface the heads.

I see this is a common problem for a lot of people. Must be a flaw in the design. What kind of oils are poeple using that get the blue smoke with bad valve seals?

I was used penzoil, and thought it was too dark when it came out of the bottle. I changed to valvoline, it it did get a little better. Then when I went to fully synthetic, the symptoms went away. I guess the equal sized molecules created a better seal, and then stopped the leaks and burning.

I use Mobil Synthetic Blend 5W-30.

Perhaps I should step up to 10W... I have alot of blowby.
