My next Lighting Project (sidemarkers)

This is what I want to do:

I want to take these sidemarkers (but in amber or smoked color):

and put them here:

but here's the catch.......I don't like the look of sidemarkers, but I like what they do for safety, therefore, I want to make them as hidden as possible. So I want to build them into the strip molding, I'm going to have to go to the junk yard and rip some molding off of a Camry and bore out the back of it then mount the sidemarker flush from behind.

The most expensive part will be the paint which I just found out is $29.95 a can for color match.

If anybody knows of some good Late Model Import Junk yards in Houston, let me know.

Well I went to the junkyard yesterday and they don't want to sell me just the trim molding....too cheap I guess.

Anybody know where I can get that molding for a Gen 4.5? It has to be 4.5 because Gen 4 molding is smaller and thinner.

Hmm..perhaps you can ask a couple of guys to see if they want to pick up some other parts in the same junkyard along the way? That way, you can go there and buy a bunch of stuff including the strip molding

they usually don't sell moldings, then the fender/door won't look right and probably won't get sold

I don't condone stealing but if you go to a junk yard like U-Wrench It or a pick-n-plunder type yard you could jack a pair... actually that type of yard should sell them to ya for a couple bucks.

if you can find a car with fender damage, then you could probably get it, or just pocket it if they don't want to sell it to ya

It's hard to find any junkyards with a lot of late model imports that have pick-ur-own.......I guess too much liability. Most of them here, you have to tell them what you want and they send guys back there to pull it for you.

I have a junkyard near me here that has a couple of gen 4 or 4.5s that you could definatly grab the molding off of it if it's still there. It's called greenleafauto in Leomonster MA. THey gave me some cracked lexus es300 headlights for $10 so that i could attempt to do a retrofit.
