Okay I just went out for 10 minutes to run a quick errand. The weather here in Waterloo is really bad. All the traffic lights are out, as well as street lights and all houses in all areas are having major power surges. I saw a couple of blocks totally knocked out too.
Anyway when I came back home I noticed that my power antenna is BENT 90 degrees!!! f***ING STORM!!!!!! Bent the antenna all the way horizontal!!! I'm SO f***ING PISSED OFF!!!!!!
I bent the antenna back into place carefully however it is not round at the bent spot anymore. As a result the power antenna will not go all the way down when I shut the stereo off. When it comes up it does not come up all the way either. I can try to bend it back into shape with pliers but I don't know if that will help.
The power antenna motor seems to be fine. Is there any way I can just replace the antenna rod? Like screw it out and screw a new rod only in? I haven't looked at a
p/antenna assembly before so I don't know.
ARRRGGHHHHH all these years of taking such good care of it! I always put it down in bad storms or through a car wash. The one time I don't... JUST 10 f***ING MINUTES ON THE ROAD!!!!! AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! I'm gonna go crazy.
Anyway, hope some of you guys can help me. For those of you that don't know, I have a 1993 Camry.

You should be happy because you just gave yourself a reasonable excuse (which Henry always have difficulty) to do the S2000 antenna conversion buddy.

Sorry to hear about your antenna, man. Today in Chicago, there has been a very strong gusty wind blowing too. Anyway, you can just replace the mast, by first unscrewing the ring out. Then, turn your tuner on, and at the same time, pull on the antenna fully to take the mast out. Just take note of how the teeths on the mast faces. When you get a new one, just insert the end first, and turn the radio off. It should retract fully. The part number for the mast is: 86337-06010. Last I checked, it was something like $34 USD. But you should be able to get an aftermarket one for much cheaper. I've seen eBay auctioning them for a set price at $23 USD. If all else fails, you know what to do...S2000 conversion. Good luck.
Anish, the antenna doesn't go down because it isn't MANDREL bent! Go to Brullen...
If you need a quick fix, check out Walmart's auto section...they have a lot of aftermarket antennas and masts. But of course, best way to go is the S2000 way!
Dickson-My motto these days is if it ain't broke, I ain't fixing it....
I actually checked my camry factory repair manuals and it surprisingly says NOTHING about the power antenna! That's really odd considering it is a generic 1993 manual that even caters to the friggin' Camry station wagon!
Luc, thanks for the directions and part#. I did do some research and found that I can just replace the mast as well. I'm sure the mast alone should be pretty cheap like you said. But man what a pain in the ass... unnecessary cost.
I did think about the S2000 antenna conversion when I saw the bent antenna (after my heart dropped and missed a beat). But that's not really appealing to me. I sorta' like our "1 meter lightning" rod as someone put it a while back.
Thanks again guys.

Oh, you just thought of the motto right after you got your a/f gauge right Hen?? Next thing we'll hear from you is that your tach is malfunctioning so you need to get an 5" aftermarket one with a shift light.

Walmart eh?? haha who would have thunk! What about Crappy Tire? Thanks for the tip. I'll check Walmart out. Maybe I'll get a longer lightning rod or a thicker one or something (or will a thicker one not fit).

 Haha, yeah, I have to have dumb excuses to buy myself these things. Exhaust was kinda rusting out, suspension is dead, swaybar is creaking...they ALL needed replacing. But yeah, that a/f guage was definitively an impulse buy, considering it's quite useless. And if my tach goes, don't be surprise if you see a guage pod with a CF autometer tach gauge in there!
How are the aftermarket power antenna masts that you guys indicated?
I found a guy who is selling a bunch of them from a store and he said that the antenna is 55" fully extended!!! What the heck is with that?? He said it is an OEM replacement for the 92-96 Camry too!
This is what he said:
THIS ANTENNA MAST IS MANUFACTURED BY THE METRA CORP AND THE PART # IS PWRTY866
Anyone heard of that?? Are our antennas 55" with like 20" of it hidden or something? haha... cuz I thought that it was only about 36" - if that.

Yes, Metra does carry that part. I've actually opened up two OEM antennas before and inside the housing, there's a wheel with teeth that will grab the mast's ridges and put it spirally downward by the motor. I'm not sure it's that long, 55" is almost 5 feet!

Henry, nothing is useless as long as it's for our Camry(s), unlike g/f's, they're more like decorations... Anyway, do you happen to have the 3VZFE ECU wiring diagram, or can get some copies from the factory manual?

HAHA the numbnut seller was just stupid when I asked him the question the first time so when I told him that he was a moron he gives me all available measurements. haha what an idiot... I'm definetly not buying from him. Anyway here they are... you can see that these numbers look right:
OVERALL MAST AND CABLE 58"
CABLE 48"
OVERALL MAST 37 1/4"
MAST PORTION ABOVE BODY LINE 34 1/4"

Oh ok, I thought you had a factory service manual. I have the Haynes for my '98, but it's rather inadequate since it isn't as complete as the '94 factory service manual (from Howard's brother). I can always get one here. Thanks anyway.
Actually I was looking at the antenna today. There are 4 little grooves around the base of the mast. Is that what I'm supposed to unscrew? I tried sticking my key in one of the grooves and turning and that didn't work. I don't wanna break anything so I thought I'd ask you guys who have done it.
