Question Car idles rough and stalls, when AC is turned [ON]??

I have a problem where if i turn on the Air Conditioner the car starts to idle rougly and it has once stalled on me also while coasting or drive down a hill with no accelerater usage. I will have my car standing still and running fine at 1000rpm while idling, then i turn on the Airconditioner and it starts to idle rougly going from 900 to 800 to 600 to 700 Rpm's, as long as i give it gas while driving it is quite fine but as soon as i let go of the gas it starts to idle and sometimes can stall. The actual air conditioner is not cooling at the moment, i need to get it re-gassed, could this problem be solved after i re-gass the airconditioner?, what can the problem be?.

thank you, any help is appreciated.

Check the a/c idle up VSV (vacuum switching valve).

Its located on the left side of the firewall and has 2 vacuum hoses going into it.

You can check for continuity, resistance, ground, and airflow.

From my Chilton's manual:

1. Make sure all accessories are off.

2. Disconnect the idle-up vavle wiring.

3. Label and remove the 2 hoses attached to the valve.

4. Remove the 2 bolts and the vavle.

5. Check the valve for an open circuit. Test the a/c idle-up valve using an ohmmeter, check that there is continuity between terminals. Resistance should be around 30 - 33 ohms at 68F (20C).

6. If not as specified, replace the VSV.

7. Check the valve for ground, with an ohmmeter, make sure there is no continuity between each terminal and the body.

8. If there is, replace the VSV.

9. Check the valve operation.

10. Check that air does not flow from pipe E to F.

11. Apply positive battery voltage across the terminals. Check that air flows from pipe E to F.

12. If operation is not as specified, replace the VSV.

My bet is that your VSV is busted since the rpms should go up when the a/c is turned on.

Heres some pics of the a/c idle up VSV, incase you don't know what to look for or where it is.

Don't mind the bundle of wires and yes my engine is missing.

another possible thing to see : check the inside core of the throttle body and clean it with carburator cleaner, if sticked, it could also be a problem as it is also designed to boost the idle when a/c is on. (that's what a Toyota mechanice told me one day...)
With regards to your a/c non cooling problem, I am pretty sure it is just a low charge problem.

Question where is a/c idle up valve on 92 v6 camry

can anyone tell me how to identify, without a doubt, the a/c idle up valve and find the adjustment?

i have spent a great deal of time trying to figure out where my a/c idle up valve is on my 92 camry LE v6, 3vz-fe engine. staring at the pics in the haynes manual doesnt help either.

my car sometimes stalls at a light when and only when the a/c is on, even after changing the plugs, wires, dist cap and rotor, fuel filter, automatic transaxle and differential fluid and cleaning the pan and screen for the transaxle.

help! and thanks, Dan
