All ATF Fluid Created Equal?

Hey folks,
Getting ready to add a little ATF fluid (1999 camry 4-cyl automatic -- it was at the low end of okay, but after 150K I don't figure I get to complain much) and I'm lust wondering -- is it all the same and just buy store brand? Is there any issue with mixing new and old?

Thanks,
JD

It''s probably best to stick to well known brands and i'd suggest flushing the system if it hasn't been done in a long time. Mixing is okay as long as it's with the same oil. My opinions anyway.....

Thanks for the info! I checked my ATF again today on a day that wasn't 20 degrees and the transmission was better warmed up, and it's fine. But I learned a thing or two, so yay!

This trans was designed for Dexrom III which GM has stopped licensing, as such it may be hard to find a bottled labeled as Dexron III or Mercon/Dexron III. The bottle may now be labeled ATF fluid, read the label to make sure it is a replacement for Dexron III.

Ok to mix old and new fluid.

Hey -- I actually looked at a store today, and as you say, they don't sell the exact thing, but they sell ATF fluid that describes itself as a replacement for Dexron III. Thanks!

This is what I use on my 2000 Camry LE 4-cyl

Shifts are very smooth now and very pleased with the performance.
