need engine help

ok my engine is pretty much dead. the guy at the shop that works on my car said that i would be better off getting a new engine instead of trying to rebuild this one(cheaper). i need to know how hard it would be to swap in a 3sgte or if it is too much trouble?

Listen to advice from others, search.

What year is your car?

If its a gen 4 you could try swapping the 1MZ-FE since that was a factory option, but if we don't know the model year we're just shooting in the dark.

From what little I know about the 3S-GTE it requires a little more than "minor" modifications to the car in order for it to work, you could still just play dumb and hope he's willing to make it a learning experience.

Try searching the forums for some of Wraith's posts. He's done a successful 3S-GTE swap.
There's options, you just have to look first.
Good luck.

EDIT: I re-read your other post. I don't think there's a chance in hell you can get the 3S-GTE in your car for 600. I think you need a 3S-GTE tranny, ECU, blah blah blah.
If you were determined (and were willing to invest) the swap is possible but not for 600.
I stil think you should try to ask him if he wants to learn something about Toyota engines since variety is the spice of life.

oh sorry i have a gen 4. as for the 600 that what he said he would do the swap for plus the 1600 for the engine. i guess if the 1mzfe will go right in and would be easier to do then i will do that. oh and for the supercharger on the 5sfe 3400 plus labor just for 191whp i dont think its worth it. all power to those who have it not meaning to knock ya'll. im just trying to figure out what to do with my engine that doesnt want to run anymore.

Since you have a gen 4 I would definitely recommend the 1MZ-FE if you dont want the 5S. I've driven a 99 Solara SLE and the engine in it pulled so hard and sounded smooth as silk. I'm guessing there wouldn't be much fabrication to get in your car.

The rippmods supercharger kit is a stage 1 kit that is just getting off the ground. Rippmods shows good support for their products (some of the stage 2 kits hit about 250whp) and will probably have a stage 2 kit for the 5S soon.

But, judging by your predicament I would go for the 1MZ-FE like the leprechaun for his Lucky Charms.

damn straight. Plus the 1MZ is beginning to get some aftermarket support.
