Okay it is pretty difficult to converse with him on the phone. I wish I was in Toronto so I could go talk to him in person.

Anyway, I have decided that I will get the 3S-GTE swap done as soon as I can locate all the necessary parts. Ideally I would like to get it done when my car is in the bodyshop when the insurance company gets back to me on it. That way I can kill 2 birds with one stone. I do not want to leave it in the shop for weeks on end so getting all the parts is key.

Yoshio mentioned one thing that I found surprising. He said that the only manual tranny I can get is the 5S-FE tranny. The reason I cannot use a 3S-GTE MR2 tranny is because it is RWD. A 3S-GTE Celica tranny is AWD and can be made to work in a FWD car but it will cost more. So cheapest option is to get a 5S-FE 5-spd tranny for the swap. Apparently the V6 Camry 5-spd tranny will not bolt up or something???

I did not really understand that. Why would I only be able to use a 5S-FE 5-spd tranny when there is no longer going to be a 5S-FE engine in there? Why not the V6 Camry 5-spd tranny? Why ONLY the 5S-FE 5-spd tranny?

Anyway basically the transmission parts have to come off a Camry and the engine/turbo/intercooler/ecu parts will be from the MR2. So I basically would need 2 front clips to play with and take the parts that I need. I am trying to get an itemized list so I can buy exactly what I need beforehand.

But that tranny situation is a little confusing to me right now. I just wanted to let you guys know what's going on and I will update later.

Wow. Good luck with the swap and eveything, really!

5S-FE tranny w/ 3S-GTE =

That tranny wasnt mean to handle that kind of power, especially if you plan on doing turbo upgrades. I dont see either why a 93 V6 5spd wouldnt work with a little modification.

Keep us updated on the status of the swap with pics if possible.

That's EXACTLY what I told Yoshio too ... all of that... and he said something that made me go, "HUH?!?!?!" I think he said it in Japanese or something! haha

Anyway all joking aside, I will do a bit more research on it and the most important part is finding the engine. I have my "scouts" looking for the exact one that I want and we'll see if I can find a well priced one. I think I might be aiming a little too high to start.

I will defiently take as many pics as I can of things that I can take pics of and keep you guys updated. It might be a long process because I want to get it perfect the first time around.

because the 3s block and the 5s block are pretty much identical while the 1mz block is different. i wouldnt be able to mate a 1mz tranny to my 5s, same reason why you cant mate the 1mz tranny to the 3s. the 5s tranny is not weak by any degree, just make sure you get a cooler, and a racing clutch with LSD. however i dont see why the mr2 tranny wouldnt be able to fit. in all actuallity if you turn around the engine it could be made into a fwd car. remember the engine and tranny are in the rear, basically a fwd design pushing from the rear. its not a FR its MR.

It should work do to the 1MZ-FE tranny is a E series tranny. Hey, the TRD Solara Pace car has a 1mz-fe tranny with e153 series internals ( built by Eric Lapka owner of E.L. Prototypes). The only difference between the 1mz tranny and the 3S-GTE tranny is the flywheel bolt pattern, final drive, gear ratios and the speedo gear. It should work with a modified flywheel.
