ABS Code 41
Hello all,
A few days ago the ABS & CEL lights came on my girlfriend's 2006 Camry. We took it to the dealership and were told the ABS module was fried and it would take $2000 to replace it. Naturally, it's also 3 years and two months since she bought it, so the warranty would no longer cover it (or so we were told).
The OBD-II code it gives is P0500 "Vehicle Speed Sensor Malfunction." Doing the ABS diagnostic gives a 41 code, which from what I've found on the web means "Battery voltage is less than 9.5 volts or more than 16.2 volts. Check battery and voltage regulator."
I'm going to swap the battery from my car and see if that makes a difference, but before I do that I've not yet been able to clear the ABS code. Do the instructions I've found on the web for mid 90s Toyotas, "Press the brake pedal 8 times in 3 seconds or less" still apply to the 2006 model? Do I need to even worry about clearing it or will it take care of itself once whatever the root cause is addressed.
Also, why would the ABS have a problem with the battery but the car show no other symptoms? Or was the dealership correct that the whole module is bad, and this code is just a red herring?
Thanks in advance for any advice or wisdom from those familiar with code 41!
