hey guys, ive been away from the ol camry forum for a while but I need your expert advice once again. This has been a minor problem until today, when it became serious. When I drive anywhere, even short distances, all of my windows become fogged. I use the defogger and this helps sometimes with the windshield, but the rest of the windows become iced. I have to scrape the INSIDE of my windows just as you normally would the outside. This makes it very hard to see without putting the windows down, and I dont want to do that when its ten degrees out! is there something im missing? thanks in advance guys. Oh yeah its a 94 LE four cylinder.
Turn on your A/C and see if that helps...actually I turn mine one at least once every week to keep the whole A/C system lubricated and whatever. Everyone should do the same. You can even point the front vents to the side if the front windshield has cleared up.
Actually, in some cars (Honda Civic), the A/C automatically turns on when you use the front defroster to decrease moisture content AND to lubricate the system.
Here's what I do: I use the defroster vents at full heat and fan speed, drawing air from the outside. I don't have A/C, so I drive with my window open about 0.5 to 1 inch. Moisture inside the car from your breath will quickly get all over your windows in the cold, and freeze up on the unheated windows.
Works great, and I never have any problems, even when it went below -30C (-20 Fharenheit) a few days ago. Windshield washer fluid with good antifreeze properties is a must, and waiting for the defroster air to warm up before going anywhere is also a good idea.
if you have AC, that should do it. it dries the air, and takes care of the problem. and the air does not need to be cold. you can use the heat with the AC as well. its still nice and warm, but dry too.
ok thanks a lot for the replies, I knew i was doing something wrong because this is the only car ive ever riden in that has done such a thing to me. I usually have the AC button on, the heat on the warmest setting, and the fan speed on the first or second notch. What do I do to make sure the air is coming from the outside? Thanks again Ill mess with it today. I think the other problem may be that I dont let the car get warm sometimes before I start driving. (like after work when I really want to go home)
well depending on the year of your car, you'll have a slider, or 2 buttons, with a little picture of a car and an arrow going from outside to inside, and the other is a sideways U shaped line inside the car
and really you don't need to let your car warm up before starting driving, just let it got for 15-20 seconds, and then just drive smoothly
Shampoo on my windows? what will that do? Im pretty sure that I sdont have the different circulation buttons for inside and outside air, but Ill have a look later today. thanx again.
thanks for the info guys, just drove down the road to best buy and no fog or ice in sight! my air circulation was indeed set on inside only. swapped it to outside setting and the problem was solved! thanks again for the help, i knew i could count on you guys.
