V6 2007 Toyota Camry - Oil line bursts - Appears to be known issue
I have been a Toyota owner since 1987. My current 2007 V6 Toyota Camry appears to have been affected by a known issue, where the oil line burst. It is unknown yet, how much damage may have been caused. However, I was told part to fix this issue is on backorder. I was also told by the Toyota Dealership and the car rental place handling loaner cars for this issue that this issue is huge, where there are thousands of cars waiting on the part. So far current ETA is 3-4 weeks. I am told this affects all 2007 and newer V6 Toyota vehicles, ranging from Camry, Avalon, Rav 4 etc.
While I am VERY pleased with how the dealership has handled my issue, it is certainly disheartening to know that this issue has been out there and where I was not notified about it. Had my husband and I decided to take a long distant trip we would have been in a heap of trouble.
I just hope that once parts are in stock that Toyota will make it a priority to notify owners affected by this problem, so no one is stranded and puts their life in jeopardy.
^ It's the VVT-i oil line, and the issues actually started on the '05 Avalon.
The newer engines have a redesigned part to prevent this from happening. So the new part they put in should make it so this never happenes again, which I sure hope.....

Thank you for the feedback. I had been reading various posts that this has been an issue since the 2005 Avalon's too. I am just surprised that two years later, newer cars being manufacturered, even today, have this issue.
Do you happen to known why this was not corrected sooner?
I have noticed some bloggers are not getting the type of service that has been given to me from their dealerships and I have noticed that warranty is contigent upon these cars getting fixed, at no cost to the owner, for this known issue.
Again, I still don't know the extent of the damage that my Camry sustained from not having oil in the car before the service light indicating low oil pressure came on. Which the service light only came when the wheel was turned, which I couldn't see the message b/c the wheel was blocking me from seeing it. The "low oil pressure" light never came on solid, only intermittently during turns.
When my husband and I pulled immediately into a local Lowes Home Improvement parking lot to get to better lighting (it was dark), that is when we notice no oil was registering on the oil stick.

Glad to hear the dealership is taking care of you and hope you get your car back soon with everything fixed.
Considering that all our cars have loud buzzers to warn us the moment we unclick a seatbelt for an instant one would think they could wire them so it would also warn of critical engine functions such as low oil pressure and serious overheating. Very easy to miss the little warning light or gauge when it might be hidden for awhile.
It's the V6 engine's worldwide. There are some pictures in that link that show EXACTLY what the issue is, and explains it. All of the current cars made"should" have the updated design.
And if you drove the car with no oil in it (oil light on), I;d ask fro EITHER a new engine, or an extented warentte (for free). But see what they say first, as they may replace the engine if they find the need.
Make sure to keep us posted, and best of luck!

I did have to bring the car back this morning to have to them throw in a detail car cleaning, due to the black soot that got all over the car, due to the oil that sprayed everywhere and burned oil smoke, along with a degreasing of the engine and the cars under carriage. All done at no charge to me.
So far so good!
A happy camper, just glad to have their car back....
Okay here is my plug.......
