Hey i have a 92 toyota camry that was in an accident and the exhaust manifold cracked. What would it entail to replace this? would the engine have to be lifted? thanks in advance!

you can replace it with only lifting the car, you might have to replace a damaged oxygen sensor

heat shield is crappy sheet metal, it wouldn't crack, the manifold is cast iron or something that dosen't bend, just breaks

is your check engine light on? no, then it may be good

yes, then get the code pulled, that might be one of them, you might get a check engine light after the change, who knows, those things are pretty fussy

well top to undo the 8ish bolts that hold the manifold to the head, and you might be able to undo the bottom end of the manifold from the top if its high enough, but yes, jackstands or ramps to get at the bottom part would probably be easier

hey k9n, just to clarify, is it the heat shield (shiny/metallic looking)

or the actual manifold red/brown rust look

i am positive it is not the heat shield, it is the pipe that goes down from the front of the engine and connects to the rest of the exhaust....thats the exhaust manifold right?

call other junkyards, haggle a price, then call a yard that's closer and tell them their competition offered lower,

or call a bunch of places, then go to the nearest yard with the part and haggle a bit

also just to verify this exhaust manifold is hard to be seen while looking at the car from above? You need to kinda look at it from the side and even then you cant see it very well? The reason i ask is because i see where the heat shield is (that silver piece with like 5 screws holding it down and you said that you can confuse the two, but what is underneath that is definately not it.
