Hey i have a 92 toyota camry that was in an accident and the exhaust manifold cracked. What would it entail to replace this? would the engine have to be lifted? thanks in advance!
its an i4 and i am pretty sure that its the exhaust, it is really loud and when i put my hand down there i can feel the exhaust....how would i know if i need to replace an o2 sensor?
is your check engine light on? no, then it may be good
yes, then get the code pulled, that might be one of them, you might get a check engine light after the change, who knows, those things are pretty fussy
well top to undo the 8ish bolts that hold the manifold to the head, and you might be able to undo the bottom end of the manifold from the top if its high enough, but yes, jackstands or ramps to get at the bottom part would probably be easier
Originally posted by Oldman heat shield is crappy sheet metal, it wouldn't crack, the manifold is cast iron or something that dosen't bend, just breaks
I dunno, the heat shield is like the first thing you see so... I dunno.???!
i am positive it is not the heat shield, it is the pipe that goes down from the front of the engine and connects to the rest of the exhaust....thats the exhaust manifold right?
also just to verify this exhaust manifold is hard to be seen while looking at the car from above? You need to kinda look at it from the side and even then you cant see it very well? The reason i ask is because i see where the heat shield is (that silver piece with like 5 screws holding it down and you said that you can confuse the two, but what is underneath that is definately not it.
