hey folks, glad to have found you. I've got a '96 Camry LE Wagon, with a leaky power steering pump. Having a hard time finding a source for a replacement. Where should I be looking?
Also, what's the best manual for this car, Haynes? Chilton's? Sound off!!
for cheap spare parts try;
http://www.taprecycling.com or http://www.car-part.com
or get a new one from http://www.ToyotaParts4U.com or http://www.ToyotaGuys.com
with respect to manuals, most of us use Haynes. It's not bad for figuring out how to tear apart major components, but doesn't go into detail. Keep in mind it's geared more towards sedans. So there will be some unique things about the wagon that won't be covered. I find it a good resource for the "layman" A cpl lucky bastards have the 3 vol. shop manual. I wouldn't even now how to interpret 2/3 of the stuff in there though! That's just me though :razz:

hey man i think that u should take out the power steering because it will give u more hp and that will be the sh**!
And of course drivability means nothing... have you ever tried driving a non-power steering car that weighs over 3000 lbs?
Besides taking out the PS will not give you THAT much more power... cons outweigh the pros this time.

thanks for the feedback. I have purchsed through toy...4u before (busted side mirror) and found them to be excellent, but they state this part as unavailable, which strikes me as odd. I'll look into the other sites. I rely heavily on my Haynes manual for my other vehicle(1st gen Trooper), but haven't needed one for the Camry yet. Thing just doesn't break. No mods whatsoever at this time, all of that energy goes towards the troop, but I get the feeling that'll change quickly if I hang around this forum long!
I'll get a pic in here that you Canadians will appreciate, showing you how we use the car. She's well loved, believe me.
What is the best wheel/tire size combo you have found that fits without mod to the wells? That's been on my wish list for some time, and after checking out those Scepters(thanx again)I've got the itch. Need new tires anyway, may as well shoot the moon!
goto http://www.autozone.com and search your vehicle and year and buy your pump and it is the least expensive of anywhere that i have seen. You will get a Remanufactured Toyota pump done by a company called Atsco. I bought my pump for my lexus and it cost me $108.00 and it runs like a dream!
nope, I'm gonna watch the fluid levels real close for a bit, I apparently lost a microscpic amount in 3800 miles, so It's not urgent, I follow it close though, thanks for the lead
well donot let it leak to long, because that Power steering fluid will eat up all the rubber that it drips on down there, including belts, the rubber boots on your CV joints and the rubber on the power steering rack. And you will have to replace $500 power steering rack and other big dollar items in the future for a $190 pump.
