something broken...

idk if you guys could help me figure out what is wrong by describing the sound...but

going over bumps i always hear what sounds sorta like a loose trunk or stuff in the trunk clunking around. i'm almost positive its something to do w/ the rear left wheel stuff.

sounds like your strut mounts are wearing out, or possibly, your strut may be knocked loose (big nut on top is loose) take a look, and if it's not loose, then it's probably the mount....

I have the same problem and Deep told me that it might be my stabalizer link. He told me to check my Boots and Loe and behold; the boot was broken. Now i gotta change it.

And yes I have the SAME EXACT sound. It sounds like I have a wooden plank in my trunk thats being knocked around.

What do they look like? A rubber housing right? just look under the wheel well? How much does the cost to get replaced?

I just check my boots and both are torn apart. Obviously they need to be replaced. is this something I can do and how do I do it?

The one thing I still don't understand is how a torn piece of rubber makes that noise. Is that really the cause of it, or is there something else?

I just had both my CV Boots Replaced about 3 months ago, and I heard a similiar sound today, except it sounds like it coming from the front left side. I just had my radiator and thermostat replaced, could that be loose? I started hearing it today, and it happens after I run over a series of bumps, then I hear a clunk right after the last bump. It sounds a lot like what sprdrvnm said.

This is what I was told happens. SO Dont flame me if Im wrong! :

When the link breaks it moves around and rips the boot. When the boot breaks, it lets dirt in and it wheres down the cd joint. I dunno, ask DEEP. He knows all about this.

So, do I need to replace just the boots, or the whole strut?

when you guys say "boot", do you mean the accordian-looking rubber cover that goes over the struts?

if so, mine are completely torn, but I don't any of the sounds you guys are describing

Ive read that you can get this sound in the rear due to bad rear stabilizer bushings. Mine are starting to go and i get a bit of clunking when i hit a pot hole or on a crappy road....

I was having the same problem, and had it checked out. Here's the damage. Front Driverside Strut -- busted, but is being replaced for free because it had a lifetime warranty, Woo HOO!. Front Passengerside Spring -- busted. CV Boots -- No Problem. Two New Bump stops and Mounts. I don't think the Spring was contributing to the sound. That was a whole different incident. Lets put it this way. I'm not suprised I cracked the spring .
