'98 Camry, PS pump or hoses?

Hi all,

I have a '98 Camry, V6/1MZ-FE, ~130k miles.

When changing the oil today, I saw a lot of dirt / fluid near the PS pump area. I looked at it long and hard with a flash light, but I don't know if its the pump or high-pressure hose. Any easy way to tell?

- Is it even worth attempting to "re-condition" the PS pump by replacing seals, etc?

- Assuming I need to replace the pump, should I get it from the dealer or aftermarket? I'm pretty religious about getting the Toyota OE parts since they are usually Denso-made.

- Also, if I want to replace the pump, anything else I should do at the same time? High-pressure & low-pressure hoses?

Thanks!

The most common cause of PS leaks is the high pressure hose where the rubber meets the metal fitting. That being said, and in your place, I'd clean up the area really well and verify the actual source before moving ahead.
FWIW
YMMV

I'll clean it up and follow-up.

How much of a pain is it to just replace the high-pressure hose? I'm thinking if I have to end up replacing the pump, I'd want to replace the HP hose, so I could just preemptively do it now and hope for the best.

Since the fluid is dirty, it needs to be flushed as well.

Thanks!
