I have been trying to get rid of the rough idle.
I first cleaned the throttlebody with throttlebody cleaner.
Didnt do much. I then was told to clean the IAC (is it called, the sensory in the throttlebody?) well the car was on.
1) Should it be cleaned well on?
2) I used silicone spray.
3) It drive worse now, was it the silicone?
Help, what should I do?

You should have used spray throttle body cleaner or O2 safe carb cleaner. It can be cleaned while the throttle body is still on the car, but it is best to do it with the engine off, if that's what you are asking. I would try to clean the throttle body and idle air control valve again with the proper cleaner I mentioned. Spray the cleaner liberally down in to the sqaure or diamond shaped hole in the base of the throttle body. That hole leads to the idle air control valve. Here's a thread with pictures on how to do it:
It's possible you could have ruined your O2 sensor(s) by spraying silicone in to the throttle body. O2 sensors do not like silicones of any kind. Is the check engine light now on?
I still do not understand the meaning of your thread title.
mike, sorry i did not mean ecu, i meant the iac.
it now drives terrible, and the check engine light is on.
its wasy worse than when i started out.
i guess i have ruined someting.
any chance i can try to clean it again, or should i just leave it alone and got to a mechanic. i sure dont want to have to spend all sorts of money.
so are you saying i may have broken the oxygen sensor?
any chance i didnt even though the light is on?>

Yes, as I said in my above post, clean the throttle body and idle air control valve again using the proper cleaner.
Yes, you may have ruined the O2 sensor(s) by spraying silicone in to the throttle body and having it burned by the engine. Was the check engine light on before you tried using the silicone?
You need to get the code(s) from the check engine light read. What year is this generation 3 Camry? Is it a 4 cylinder engine or a V6? Answering these 2 questions will tell us how to direct you on how to go about getting the codes read.
Also, when posting a thread on this forum it is a good idea to always give the year of the car, the engine, and the current mileage, along with any maintainance history (especially recent history) about the car.
Mike, Thanks for your help.
So its a 94, 2.2, 225,000 km.
Okay, I will try to fix it using the proper throttle body cleaner.
I also have a can of carb cleaner from Walmart, that says CAT safe. Is this stuff safe?
Okay - so I may have killed my oxygen sensors, probably both do you think?
Prior to doing all of this I bridged the EI and TE1 terminals, and got the RPM signal error.
1 flash, a pause, then 2 flashes. Maybe cleaning the throttle body was pointless, but I thought it was worth a shot. So is there a way to test for my oxygen sensors too?
I have a 94 camry, 2.2 litres, 225,00 km.

The Idle was erratic, so I cleaned the throttlebody with Throttlebody Cleaner. This did not help. Someone else suggested cleaning the IAC, the little hole in the Throttle Body. So - I cleaned it, but with Silicon Spray. I didn't know that it would be bad for the car. It was, the car now drives terribly. The Engine Light went on too!
Anyways, I should note that prior to cleaning the throttlebody, I had an error signal : error 12, the RPM signal. Now after spryaing it, I get an error: 2 flashes, then 4 flashes on my dash when I close the circuit EO and TE1. According to the book, it inidcated a problem with the Idle Air Control Circutry, IAC Fuse, or IAC Sensor. This is not the o2 sensor right?
My question,
a) What happened to the original error code?
b) Should I re-spray it - but with O2 freindly thrittlebody cleaner. If so, should the car be on when I do it? Or just stick the straw in the hold of the IAC and spray when its off.
c) Does it sound like my IAC sensor is toast? Or will the cleaning fix it?

a) It might have been an old code that was never erased. Are you the original owner of this car? If it doesn't come back forget about that code for now.
b) Yes.
c) Maybe. You need to try cleaning it. There are also tests for the idle air control valve in the manual.
Take the throttle body off of the intake plenum, Remove the IAC. Remove all rubber and plastic parts and dip the throttle bottle in berrymans carb cleaner overnight.
