Can you recognize other Camrys by the sound of their engine?

I'm just curious how many of you can tell a Camry is driving by or starting, just by the sound of its engine. I can pretty much tell if it's the 5S, 1MZ, or 2AZ without looking.

Anyway today my friend said she was walking and a car gunned its engine and she said she thought it was me (based on the sound of the engine) and when she turned to look it was a gen 6 I4 Camry. I was actually pretty impressed that she could recognize the 2AZ and put two and two together, because she's not a car person [I helped her do her first oil change a month or two ago] and they don't own any Toyotas in the family

I just thought it was funny. My gf is VERY good with Toyota-speak too which is ironic because she doesn't own a Toyota yet. She's on the lookout for a gen 5 Camry but in the meantime she's driving a 2GR Avalon - which is a nice ride of course!

I don't like the sound of a Honda starting . It's not sexy like a Toyota

I think my favorite sound has got to be the 1MZ or 3MZ starting up and also during WOT . Despite its pain in the ass oil filter, it's a great engine.

BTW is the 1UZ in the LS400? Whatever it is, my aunt's '00 LS is a BEAST! It's the 'Platinum Series' in black and she's only got 35K miles on it. I told her I'm first in line when she wants to get a new Lexus! I have to call her up and see if she wants me to detail it this weekend..

I can tell the 2AZ, 5S, 1MZ, and the 2GR apart. Just by hearing them rev up or accelerate. The 2AZ has some what of a clicking noise to it that makes it very easy to pick out.

Yeah I can definitely tell.

So far i've been able to pick apart 2az, 5s, 1mz, 2jz, 1uz...

I'm a musician though too... so I go the upper hand

Well now that's no fair I am musically challenged!

The 2AZ is pretty distinct but that might be because I own one. The 5S also has a unique sound, but it sounds kinda labored sometimes. The 1MZ/3MZ sound great of course. I can't quite remember the sound of the 3S and 2VZ but I don't really see many gen 1 and gen 2 Camrys around..

I'm curious how the new 2AR sounds. The 2AR + 6spd auto looks like an awesome combination. I've got to test drive one of those eventually. If they have a 5spd on the lot maybe that too
