Random not starting

2000 Solara 4 cyl auto 118,000 miles
Randomly the car does not start. Key is turned and nothing happens. All the idiot lights come on. No clicking nothing. Lights work, radio works. Battery is 2 months old. Plugs 6 months old. Left at the local mechanic and it started for him everytime. Any suggestions???

Maybe the starter? That's how my mom's gen 3.5 starter started off. You'd turn the key and no noises, no start. Sometimes it would start no problem. A new starter cured it.. Just my $0.02.

On top of that, check to make sure the battery connections are tight and clean.

May be the contacts in the starter solenoid. Good info here....

^I have to agree with DFBonnett that worn starter solenoid contacts is a likely cause. Do a search on this forum for "starter contacts" and read up on the problem and it's cures.

THanks. Put new battery wire clamps on, all corrosion cleaned off.
