Did you ever get the short shifter to work?
I will be on spring break next week, so I will look into it again soon. I was able to get a Solara/Gen4 shifter assembly, so hopefully, that will solve the mystery.
I was hoping to be the same also, but from the eyes of mine and Camry2000, there wasn't an easy way since the bottom stalk below the ball on the TRD short shifter was longer than the OEM one. We just didn't see how it could have worked without the shifter assembly.
Yeah, for sure. I'll keep you guys updated, hopefully, when Camry2000 has time to come by with his digicam, we can continue where we left off last time. I got the shifter assembly for $110.

Success!!! I was able to fit the TRD short shifter with the Gen4/Solara shifter assembly into my Gen3 today. It took a while to do, but the conversion is finally done. The throws have definitely been reduced. I had to take the entire shifter assembly from the Gen3 out, and there didn't seem to be a way to just replace the shifter. Also, some of the Gen4/Solara shifter assembly had to be cut to fit. I will upload the pictures soon.

Thanks for the info Luc! Now i dont have to bother getting a gen3 shifter assembly for my swap. Where did you order the SS from, and for how much?
thanks.
The Gen3 shifter assembly itself is/was all METAL, whereas the Gen4 assembly is/was all PLASTIC, thus, making it possible to cut away any protrusions that didn't fit. I bought the SS used for $70; I got lucky , but I'm still using the OEM knob since the TRD one had a missing emblem. Unfortunately, they run about $150 USD new from a dealer.

does the shifter still sit as high? i just thought it might cause of the gen4 assembly
Well, I do have the higher armrest, so it didn't make a difference to me. But from the looks of it, it doesn't sit higher. The actual stalks between the OEM and TRD are the same with the exception of a longer bottom stalk below the pivot ball. The shifter boot rests on the same height as OEM.
