Hi,
Recently I have noticed that my 94 Camry when running at 2,000rpm+ (in gear or not) the pitch of the engine noise has changed to a lower tone than usual, and associated with this is a soft vibration felt in the steering wheel and foot rest.
as to replace engine mounts, u have to take out engine and replace and put engine back in?
Dude, the engine doesn't have to come out to replace the mounts , crap, that would cost a fortune! Engine is just jacked or hoisted up a little so the mounts can be removed.
to be more exact about the sound......lets say a normal engine makes a 'humming' noise, however at about 2,000rpm my engine makes a 'buzzing' noise....... However below 2,000rpm it sounds fine.....anything above about 2,500rpm is a bit of both sounds. It almost sounds like you are driving an electric car with a bad motor or something
also i took a look more carefully today, and found that when I rev the car to 2,000rpm+ and then let the throttle go, i hear a clank noise when the engine is returning to its idle speed..... The 'clank' noise is similar to the sound that the car makes when you start the car when it is already started . However this noise is not very loud, in order to hear it you need to have the bonnet open and be in a quite environment.
Does this noise somewhat resemble the sound of a kazoo? If so, I've heard the same noise in my '92 LE. This is just a seemingly random occurance, but tends to happen if the car downshifts for a hill. I've been told by somebody that it has to do with a "known problem" with the transmission, but I'm not too convinced that person knows what he's talking about. It just sounds like a thin piece of metal coming in contact with a vibrating piece to me, but I'm no mechanic.

im not sure what a 'kazoo' is exactly....but if it makes a buzzing noise then yes . The odd thing is that when I start the car it would run perfectly normal until it warms up to normal temperature and then the buzzing noise starts at 2000rpm......
also associated with this buzzing noise is a stronger than usually vibration at idle.....
I have no evidence to back it up, but personally I suspect that the petrol I put in was not too much good, since it started doing this the day after I filled it up.....it was Regular ULP (RON 91) and if there was ethanol mixed in with it, i dont know. So maybe using PULP (RON 98) will fix the problem, plus clean the engine aswell .
In the worst case senario I think that one of the cylinders is not functioning.....because when the buzzing noise is happening I feel a slight loss in power......what are other symptoms of running one less cylinder?
Ok, I brought the car down to Midas today and they took a look at it and showed me that the front exhaust bracket was broken, it looked broken quite badly in my opinion.....
They rewelded it together and the buzzing noise is gone now and the vibrations at idle seem to be less
