Tranny Shifting / Contacts

OK Guys,

When i put my tranny into 2 the light on the instrument panel doesn't always light up. I have to pull back on the shifter a bit (when its already in 2) and then the light will show up. Now I wouldn't even care about the light lighting up, but the thing is that if i don't pull back on the shifter it doesn't engage into the 2nd gear. Has anyone else had this problem?

I'm thinking i might have to go in there and tighten a few things, and probably make sure some connections are still clean and solid. Any suggestions?

I'd say its that position switch on the front side of the transmission. It is probably in need of adjustment.

iT IS HAPPENNING TO MY 91 CAMRY

After 238,000 miles and a second tranny. The clunky noise was reduced when changed the Idle speed at the carburator linkage.
Now it shifts to neutral while driving.
Got the ens of the shifter bolt and clips and the assembly with the electrical plug fitting on it. Right It goes in front of the transmission.
Tough luck, car is in Ft Lauderdale. Goto wait till Mem day.
I hope this is related.
All tranys at the junkyard do not have this problem of slipping into neutral; they are snug. Maybe cable is loose, lost the Hex nut ?
Thanks for any input.
