few random questions

1st heat shield on exhaust manifold.... does that act like a heat sink for a processor? or just as a protection, because as of yesterday i took it off... looking at turboing my 93 5sfe

2nd how much hp can my transmission hold?

3rd how much psi can the engine internals take.... and whats this im reading about that 93 camrys and older have forged internals? ive read this in another thread, wtf? is it true?

4th 8psi would be the max psi a stock 5sfe engine could take, before changing the internals and such

5th junkyard wants to sell me a used mr2 turbo for 500$... obviously this is CRAZY, what should i expect to buy a used mr2 turbo for (lets say year 92)?

THANKS

It won't be a drama if you drive without it. It's just a protection and also I think something to regulate heat

That is something people on this board have already talked about many times. Many people say the automatic tranny is a bit weak for a turbo project (I would say you're fine until 5 or 6). That is why most of them do get a manual tranny as well.

I think it's just the pistons (not the rest)

This is CHEAP !!! Have a look on ebay and see what they are worth : mostly at least the double. Of course you have to check its condition and see what parts come with the engine.

BTW There is a guy here who made a great conversion. You'll find good info on his website :
www.meisners.net

Good luck !

ive been hovering over this forum for the last month.... reading and absorbing info.... tony the tiger i think said in one reply that his transmission is holding 270hp stock......

when i said the junkyard wants to sell me a mr2 turbo for 500$ i meant JUST THE TURBO..... sry my bad

so u think a small turbo running 8psi is fine for my motor? no problems down the road?

Oops I didn't understand immediately sorry I understood you were talking of ... an entire engine ! ;-) Yes 500 bucks might be a bit expensive. As far as I am concerned I bought one that needed to be rebuilt and bought a rebuillt kit so that I got one in a nearly new condition for 140 $. I would say the best place is on ebay : you should be able to find one for +/- 200 $...
Re the transmission I don't know as I have a manual one and they're supposed to be a bit more reliable. I can't really tell you 'till where you could go with yours, just that it is a little bit more risky...
