VVT and VVT-i

Sorry if this topic has been discussed before but I couldn't find it using the search button. What is the difference between VVT and VVT-i?

Assuming that you know what VVT technology is.....

VVT only has two stages, low cam overlap and high cam overlap.

VVT-i (intelligence) has continuously (infinite) stages. So it varies it continuously from low to high cam overlap.

And then there's VVTL-i which is the same as VVT-i, but adds variable lift timing (similar to VTEC).

FUDGE! I don't have either.

And I thought I was cool for having "VVT"

The new camry's don't have VVTL-i right? That's on that new Corolla SXR or something...

VVTL-i is only on the 4 bangers. (some) VVT-i is on the four as well as the six.

i-VTEC (RSX, TSX) 4 bangers - same as Toyota VVTL-i

Honda doesn't have equivalent one to VVT-i, (as far as I know of) but they have SOHC VTEC (Odyssey V6, Acura TL) and DOHC VTEC. (NSX, PRELUDE, etc) But these only adjust lift, not timing. DOHC VTEC is the one famous for "kaboom" turbolike performance when you floor it.

the vx-i is just the model name, nothing more.

you have the vx-i varient of the vienta.

you don't have vvt, vvt-i or vvti-l.

No, just VVT-i. VVTL-i is only on the Celica GTS, Matrix XRS and the unreleased Corolla XRS.

Unfortunately, no. The 3.3 V6 (3MZ-FE) is found in the 2004 Solara, Sienna, Highlander and Camry SE V6, along with the Lexus ES330 and RX330. But it doesn't have VVTL-i.
