For a new Camry, is it possible (how?) to make louder sounds when the turn signal is on? If the airconditioner is on or there is significant road noise, the turn sound doesn't intrude on a conversation - and I would like it to do so.
The unit is somewhere near the driver's left knee but I haven't located it. If , probably, there is no volume control, I will consider inserting a connector pair and attaching an external sounder.

Any info will be appreciated; Thank You.

It's a relay not an audio alert for you.
There ARE lights on the dash too?

Hi SPP,
Was told by the Toyota service manager that the sound is from a piezoelectric sounder - but he was not, on this question, otherwise very helpful. I suspect the whole system is electronic rather than having any electromechanical device such as a relay.
I misunderstood you. There is no problem finding a device to make a louder signal. I probably have one or more in my junk box as I am a retired electrical engineer and a pack rat. The problem is determining how to connect it into the Camry. I do not, yet, know what device is now making the sounds nor do I have a wiring diagram. May try Toyota's techinfo site even at the new rate of $15 to connect.
I noted that the "Electrical Wiring Diagram Manual" is 507 pages. They imply, but I haven't tried it, that it is a free download. Even with DSL, it will take awhile. Probably the same problem, and I hadn't considered it, with the paid info at techinfo.toyota.
I pulled up the first one which shows it on page 138. Depicts it as behind the instrument panel and on the far left. Seems it has a clamp on it and looks like you may need to pull the instrument panel.
From my initial message: "If the airconditioner is on or there is significant road noise, the turn sound doesn't intrude on a conversation - and I would like it to do so. "
I've managed too often to leave the turn signal on too long.
Have now explored your references and they are excellent; Thank You again. One remaining problem is finding my way thru the thousands of pages to find the info pertinent to my problem. Would be nice if they included a search feature. Did find two different pictures showing the turn signal flasher assembly located behind the dashboard. I assume there is not much difference between my 2009 car and the info which is for 2007 - tho their title mentions 2009.
While I would like the turn signal to be louder, it is not worth the major pain of removing the instrument panel. I will try, with little expectation of success, of looking up from below. Would be nice, but I haven't determined how to find out, if the pertinent signals are available at some junction point that is more accessible. I will continue looking.

Would be nice if there were an index to click on but the price is right.
Just a pain scrolling thru for info.
Try learning to not fully engage the turn indicator when changing lanes and just hold it a little until you've made the lane change. Full turns self cancel so no problem.
I've been doing this for 40 years and rarely leave my indicators on unless I plan on turning and change my old mind.
